5 reasons to start watching Formula E

With the start of the new Formula E season nearly upon us, it’s time to get excited.

If you’re not already a fan, here are our top five reasons why you should give it a try.

1

The cars

The cars

This might seem an obvious reason to watch a motorsport, but the Gen2 Formula E cars are seriously cool. Despite the lack of combustion engine, they produce an amazing sound, which is like nothing else in motorsport. And they look incredible. They're basically from the future.

The fans have direct influence over races

The fans have direct influence over races

FanBoost puts some of the power (quite literally) in fans' hands. From 6 days prior to an E-Prix to the first 15 minutes of a race, fans can vote for their favourite drivers. The top five drivers then receive a power boost in the second half of the race, which can make all the difference to race results.

The wheel-to-wheel action

The wheel-to-wheel action

If you've ever watched Formula 1 and got frustrated by drivers' inability to overtake, Formula E is for you. There's pretty much a level playing field, meaning racing is seriously close. Overtaking is so frequent, it's almost impossible to predict race results.

4

The tracks

The tracks

Every single E-Prix is held at a street circuit. The narrow circuits combined with close overtaking is the perfect combination for creating on-track excitement.

The circuits are also in some pretty exotic locations that you wouldn't normally associate with motorsport, including Indonesia and Morocco. Having a sneak peak into different countries and cultures is always a good thing, and if you can do so while enjoying motorsport, so much the better.

5

The pun-filled commentary

The pun-filled commentary

If you love a pun, you'll feel right at home watching a Formula E race. From talking about "electrifying starts" to drivers "making a charge" through the field, the commentary alone makes Formula E worth a watch.

Not only is it an awesome sport to watch, but Formula E is also paving the way for more sustainable driving for us all. The technology behind Formula E cars will eventually make its way onto road cars. New Formula E entrant Mercedes has already said that its FE engineers meet with engineers working on their electric road cars, ensur[ing] that [they]’ve got that knowledge transfer taking place”.

What’s not to love! Give Formula E a try and you’ll soon be hooked.
