3 things we learned at the Diriyah E-Prix

The Diriyah E-Prix did not disappoint, giving fans an action-packed start to the 2019/20 season.

If you weren’t able to catch the Diriyah E-Prix, fear not! Here are the three most important things we learned from the season opener.

A beard can make you go faster

Sam Bird put his stunning victory in round one of the Diriyah E-Prix down to his new facial hair. As he crossed the line, he said over team radio: “Thank you – it was the power of [the new] beard that did that.”

Who knew a beard could give such an edge! We might see a few more popping up in the pit lane…

It’s really not OK to overtake under a safety car

Maximilian Guenther lost second place in round two of the Diriyah E-Prix after receiving a post-race penalty for overtaking during a safety car period. Towards the end of the first safety car period, he made a pass on both di Grassi and Vandoorne to take third position, which isn’t allowed under race rules.

Guenther’s loss was Vergne’s gain, who was bumped up to eighth and scored some precious points after a disappointing weekend for Techeetah

Saudi Arabia takes podiums to a whole new level

Have you ever seen a podium like the one at the Diriyah E-Prix?! It rains all over the parade of every other podium in motorsport. It was basically a concert stage – just as well given that Clean Bandit and Imagine Dragons were around after the race to treat fans to a gig.
