3 things to watch out for in the Santiago E-Prix

The Santiago E-Prix, the first race of 2020, will soon be upon us, marking the third time an E-Prix has been held in the Chilean capital.

Sticking with the lucky three theme, here are three things to watch out for during season 6’s Santiago race.

The typical Santiago E-Prix drama

If past seasons are anything to go by, the 2020 Santiago E-Prix should be a real crowd-pleaser with collisions aplenty. There might even be a repeat of teammates making contact as we saw in 2018 with the Techeetah drivers.

With the searing Santiago summer heat, tyre degradation will likely prove a headache for teams. Watch out for drivers putting it in the wall as they go off-line and pick up marbles. This caught a few drivers out in season 5 and we fully expect to see the same in the season 6 Santiago E-Prix.

Brits on the charge

Britons Alexander Sims and Sam Bird both have points to prove at the Santiago E-Prix. They each took a victory in Diriyah and will hope to maintain their winning streak in Chile.

For Sam Bird, replicating his stunning victory at last year’s Santiago race will provide a welcome boost to his championship hopes. Holding the record for the most number of wins without being crowned champion, Bird needs to secure victories early in the season to be in with a real shot at finally becoming a Formula E champion.

Despite only finishing seventh in the 2019 Santiago E-Prix, Alexander Sims will be hoping to capitalise on his first Formula E victory in Diriyah. Sealing the win in Santiago would cement his lead at the top of the championship and make him a serious contender for the title.

14 finishers

There’s something about the number 14 in Santiago. In both the previous times the Santiago E-Prix was held, only 14 cars finished.

With all the incidents we’re expecting to see during the race, we could well see a 14-finisher hat trick in season 6.

Anything is possible in Formula E. One thing’s for sure – it’s a race not to be missed!
